Roll over Rover and Do You!
Do not be intimidated by the huge national marketing campaigns of Rover.com. It is tempting. All the commercials and fluff looks glorious on the screen. Beautiful, young, smiling pet sitters sitting next to their phone just waiting on you to request service in their tree filled, sunny perfect community.Sound to good to be true? Of course it is.
I once had a fellow tell me about the experience he was having listening to offers from potential buyers of his small craft coffee roasting company. He had done most of the hard work. He had built a brand, a nice group of retail buyers and not to mention he had a great product. But he told me something that stuck with me. He said when meeting with potential buyers they were only interested in his label. They wanted to buy the sticker on the bag. It did not matter what was in the bag.
Pet care ain't coffee folks. When someone gets a bag of coffee and they don't like, they'll finish it and buy a different one next time. Maybe even a different flavor from the same brand. If they really need coffee they'll buy a few more bags from the same store.
But, if they really love good coffee they will search out that perfect roast and become loyal because it is what they like and coffee is that important to them. If you haven't figured it out yet, your clients pets are very important to them. Much more important than any cup of coffee.
You can provide a service that Rover can't. Local, trusted, professional pet care. You are not even in the same business. Your best clients are buying you and your ability to care for their home and pets. They want consistency and trust. They don't want to deal with a new person every time they need service. They want to speak to the same person every time they call. Rover can't and doesn't provide that service, you do. So do you and tell Rover to roll over.
