Clone Wars: The Battle for Pet Sitting Domination

I always said that if I could clone myself 10 times over I would have the finest army of pet sitters ever assembled.  As of 2018 that is not an option.  That does not mean that it can not be the ultimate goal however.
I look for a few attributes in others that I believe match up with my own personality.  You are hiring because you're busy, you're busy because you’re good at what you do, so its simple.  The personality traits that you think make you successful may be different than mine.  I believe what initially made me successful, (able to gain clients trust), was that I am a listener.  I’m am not an extrovert and never have been.  But I do listen, and over the years I’ve learned the importance of asking questions.
So when I meet a potential sitter I am always partial to people who don’t run their mouth during the interview.  I look for people who answer questions directly, and ask questions that show me they have some idea of the work involved.

This may not be the case for you.  You may have become successful because you are outgoing and charming.  That is a great way to be.  However, beware of the potential employee who talks glowingly about how much they love “doggies”, “sweet babies” and “fur children”.
It has been my experience that these folks are not the ones who are capable of buckling down and getting 10 visits or more done the day after Christmas.  The “fur baby” type is also more likely to forget to bring in the mail, notice an unlocked door or pick-up the package off the front porch.  Hire people who you think are attentive and down to earth, then train them to operate in the fashion that has made you successful.  Soon you will have well oiled army of pet sitters.
